We couldn’t call ourselves specialists in plastering if we didn’t know our way around plasterboard installation, as so many development jobs today use the simple and effective materials. The durability, speed of installation and cost-efficient benefits make plasterboard an obvious choice for so many plastering jobs – and here at Deacon Contractors, we’re highly experienced in all aspects of its installation.
From standard walls to loft conversions, window bays and much more, the installation of the plasterboard is a vital part of the renovation – and one that requires the same level of care and attention that we apply to our subsequent plastering application, which is later spread on top of the installed plasterboard.
Whether an internal partition, ceiling, wall lining or separating wall; the additional benefits of quality plasterboarding (aka dry lining and tacking) – brought to a building with plasterboard include greater thermal and acoustic insulation, better plaster finishing and of course, complying with the established building regulations.
Plasterboard consists of an inner layer of gypsum mixed with various additives to improve performance, sandwiched between two outer layers of paper lining. Depending on the weight and strength of the lining, the plasterboard will provide a range of different benefits to the build.
Gypsum is a popular building product due to its properties, value and ease of installation. A modern marvel of plastering, gypsum is made up of crystals containing a small amount of water (aka water of crystallisation). In the event of fire, the water is driven off, helping to keep the temperature of the fire down and working to prevent it spreading.
On top of the many safety benefits, the acoustic and thermal properties of gypsum are an added bonus that has helped its popularity, and depending on the requirements of the build, specific boards are available. From Gyproc Fireline to Gyproc SoundBloc, the properties of the Gypsum technologies have added bespoke dimensions to plastering that improve so many aspects of building and renovating properties.
Further customisable still, plasterboard can be installed with timber stud or the popular MF System (metal frame), which is a metal framework designed specifically to offer enhanced strength and insulation properties over its steel predecessor. Over 80% lighter, simpler to cut and less likely to warp, the MF System is also stronger and easier to install over both timber and steel studs.
Here at Deacon Contractors we’ve had great experience in all types of board and studding – so whatever your building requirements, we have the resources and know how to ensure your plasterboard installation is the correct choice for the desired effect and performance upon completion.
